MECHANICAL CAD TECHNOLOGIST (SOLIDWORKS) 12-MONTH CONTRACTOR
Wyvern is making something big. Our vision is to provide actionable intelligence from space, anywhere in the solar system. To achieve this we need to entirely reimagine how satellite Earth observation is done.
We are a rapidly growing space company in Western Canada, powered by humans who are passionate about space and building a better Earth, from space.
If you're excited by the prospect of being part of the space industry and want to operate satellites that makes a difference now...
WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON
Wyvern is developing telescopes to capture better hyperspectral imagery from space. Hyperspectral images contain more colours than other types of imagery, meaning these images capture the spectral signature of your crop or forest, for example.
With hyperspectral imagery, however, it’s hard to get quality images with a high signal-to-noise ratio and resolution. To mitigate this, and as part of our long-term vision, we’re designing telescopes that are compact on launch and deploy in space, meaning we pack better performance in a smaller, cheaper-to-launch package.
We’re looking to support our mechanical engineering team with an individual experienced in Solidworks modeling and drafting of production drawings of precision opto-mechanical components and assemblies. You will be an integral part of a small team solving the challenges needed to put our hyperspectral camera systems on orbit.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- A minimum of 5 years experience with mechanical design of precision aerospace and/or optical components and assemblies
- You are experienced with precision machined component design and manufacturability requirements
- A diploma in engineering technology or equivalent (required)
- Must be a resident of, or currently legally authorized to work in Canada
- You are well organized and have a keen eye for detail
- Highly experienced at transforming design concepts into detailed computer aided design (CAD) models
- Expert in using Solidworks or similar CAD software to create parts, assemblies, and drawings
- You have experience with Solidworks PDM or a similar product data management system
- You have demonstrated the ability to work in a team environment with engineers, scientists, and technical staff from multiple disciplines
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with engineering staff to refine designs and produce models suitable for finite element analysis and fabrication (CNC machining, etc.)
- You can quickly incorporate changes and updates into new or existing designs
- You have expertise in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and design for manufacturing and assembly
- You are highly organized in your work practices
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Using SolidWorks to create, tolerance, and review engineering drawings in accordance with industry standards
- Drafting detailed designs of our satellite optical payload equipment
- Collaborating with our engineering and other staff to translate their design inputs into manufacturable models and drawings in order to accelerate our development process
- Interfacing with suppliers on procurement and design for manufacturability
- Participating in design reviews
- Organization and management of Solidworks PDM content
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM WYVERN
- We have all the best aspects of startup culture and support from across the team whenever you need it.
- In supporting our small but rapidly growing company, the systems you craft will be impactful to Wyvern’s success
- This is a 12-month contractor role anticipated to require approximately 30-40 hours per week. There may be flexibility to consider alternate arrangements for the right candidate.
